Several victories by young LIMU researchers!

On July 10, 2026, the results of several competitions were announced, resulting in LIMU research fellows Pavel Rosnitsky, Alisa Krokhmal, Anastasia Kvashennikova, and Ekaterina Ponomarchuk receiving RSF grants for young scientists, while A.A. Krokhmal also won the BASIS Foundation special course competition.

LIMU visits fellow optoacousticians at IAP RAS

This summer, at the IV All-Russian Acoustic Conference, combined with the XXXVIII session of the Russian Scientific and Technical Acoustic Society, in Nizhny Novgorod, the LIMU team had the opportunity to visit the Laboratory of Ultrasound and Optoacoustic Diagnostics at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, led by Pavel V. Subochev.

Maria Sergeeva is the winner of the R.V. Khokhlov student thesis competition!

LIMU student Maria Sergeeva won first place in the R.V. Khokhlov student thesis competition at the MSU Faculty of Physics. The award is especially meaningful this year, marking the 100th birthday of the outstanding physicist and MSU rector R.V. Khokhlov. Congratulations to Maria on this well-deserved award!

Vera A. Khokhlova has been awarded the William and Francis Fry Honorary Fellowship

LIMU co-head, Vera A. Khokhlova, has been honored with the prestigious William and Francis Fry Honorary Fellowship (The Fry Award), the highest lifetime achievement award presented annually by the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU) to an individual for outstanding contributions to the development of HIFU.

LIMU student Nikita Gusev is one of the winners of the second‑year course work competition

At the end of May 2026, the Physics Faculty held an awards ceremony for the winners of the second-year student work competition. Among them was LIMU student Nikita Gusev with his coursework, supervised by Ekaterina Ponomarchuk, titled: "Pulsed ultrasound approach for recanalization and fractionation of gastric and esophageal cancer tumors: the first experimental ex vivo demonstration and investigation of the influence of tumor morphology".

Oleg A. Sapozhnikov has been awarded the Helmholtz–Rayleigh Medal

LIMU co-founder and co-head, Oleg A. Sapozhnikov, has been awarded the prestigious Silver Interdisciplinary Helmholtz–Rayleigh Medal of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), with the citation: “For contributions to nonlinear acoustics and its application to medical ultrasound.”

LIMU at the International Youth Science Forum “Lomonosov-2026”

On April 16, 2026, the International Scientific Conference of Students, Postgraduates, and Young Scientists “Lomonosov-2026” was held at the Faculty of Physics of Lomonosov Moscow State University. Our 2nd–4th year students presented their results within the subsections “Acoustics” and “Medical Physics” and made a lasting impression on the competition committee, winning three first prizes for the best reports within their subsections!

LIMU at Oncoradiology congress – 2026

On February 13–14, 2026, the IX All-Russian Scientific and Educational Congress "Oncoradiology, Diagnostic Radiology, and Radiotherapy" was held in Moscow. Our research fellow, Ekaterina Ponomarchuk, participated as an invited speaker with an overview talk on "Tumor disintegration with high-intensity ultrasound."
