LIMU co-founder and co-head, Oleg A. Sapozhnikov, has been awarded the prestigious Silver Interdisciplinary Helmholtz–Rayleigh Medal of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA). The award was presented with the citation: “For contributions to nonlinear acoustics and its application to medical ultrasound.”
This honorary medal is bestowed upon scientists for outstanding achievements in advancing science, technology, or human welfare through the application of acoustic principles, as well as for significant scientific accomplishments in acoustics that span two or more technical disciplines.
Oleg A. Sapozhnikov was recognized for his long-standing cycle of fundamental and applied research in nonlinear acoustics and medical ultrasound. The ASA press release provides details of O.A. Sapozhnikov’s research, as well as a list of previous medal recipients, including LIMU co-founder and co-head Vera A. Khokhlova, who presented Oleg A. Sapozhnikov at the award ceremony plenary session.

The Acoustical Society of America (ASA), founded in 1929 in the United States, is today the leading international community of acousticians worldwide. It unites approximately 7,000–7,500 specialists from dozens of countries. Only about two-thirds of the members are from the United States; the rest are scientists from Europe, Asia, Canada, Australia, Latin America, and other regions. ASA publishes one of the world’s most authoritative journals – Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA) – organizes major international conferences, and actively supports global scientific collaboration.
We wholeheartedly congratulate Oleg A. Sapozhnikov on this high and well-deserved international honor! This recognition is a vivid testament to the world-class level of his scientific achievements and his significant contribution to the development of modern acoustics and medical technologies.
