Maria Sergeeva is the winner of the R.V. Khokhlov student thesis competition!

On June 22, the final of the R.V. Khokhlov student thesis competition – one of the most serious student competitions at the faculty, was held at the Faculty of Physics, MSU. Following a preliminary selection process held at the faculty’s departments, 12 of the strongest theses advanced to the finals. The authors presented the results of their research to a big jury commitee, which included leading faculty members and researchers. The level of the finalists’ work was exceptionally high, making the jury’s decision far from easy.

The final thesis of LIMU student Maria Sergeeva, “Characteristics of low-frequency acoustic wave generation driven by biharmonic and pulsed excitation”, carried out under the scientific supervision of Vera A. Khokhlova and Anastasia V. Kvashennikova, was awarded a first-degree diploma.

Receiving this award this year is a special honor, as it marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scientist and MSU rector Rem Viktorovich Khokhlov.

Rem V. Khokhlov (1926–1977) was one of the founders of nonlinear optics and laser physics, and a leading expert in radiophysics, nonlinear acoustics, and quantum electronics. In 1962, he founded the first nonlinear optics laboratory in the USSR at MSU. He was a full member of the USSR Academy of Sciences and a Lenin Prize laureate, and served as rector of MSU from 1973 to 1977.

A memorial bust of the scientist was opened on June 26 in his hometown Livny.

Congratulations to Maria on this important and well-deserved award, and we wish her further success in her research career!
