At the end of November – beginning of December 2025, the annual festival “First Snow” was held at the MSU Physics Faculty. The festival traditionally features an event called “Gradient of Science”, where young research fellows and graduate students of the Physics Faculty talk about their scientific paths, share their experience choosing a department, finding a supervisor, and pursuing a research direction. This year, one of the speakers was Daria Chupova, a graduate student of our laboratory.

In her talk, Daria described how, as a second-year student, she chose the research field of transcranial ultrasound surgery and offered advice on what younger students should consider when choosing their future scientific path.
Daria explained in simple terms how ultrasound therapy works, and discussed the prospects of the method and its modern applications already implemented in clinical practice.
The speakers also touched on hobbies and time management during their studies and work at the faculty, and shared how they combine their hobbies with the scientific work.

The “Gradient of Science” is an excellent opportunity for freshmen to connect with graduate students and young research fellows and ask questions in a casual environment. Choosing a research area and supervisor is an important and crucial moment in one’s studies at the faculty. We, therefore, encourage all freshmen not to put it off until the last minute and, of course, to attend such events to learn as much as possible about life in science and various departments of the faculty!
