On April 22 and 23, 2026, the Physics Department held defenses of second-year students’ course works: nine LIMU students presented their projects at the Departments of Acoustics, Nanophotonics, and Medical Physics. The students’ works covered a wide range of research areas, including:
Transcranial ultrasound focusing:
- Maxim Korneev (Department of Acoustics) – “Investigation of skull vibrations using acoustic holography” (supervisor: Alisa A. Krokhmal).
- Yulia Moskvina (Department of Acoustics) – “Influence of geometric and structural parameters of the human skull on ultrasound beam focusing efficiency” (supervisor: Alisa A. Krokhmal).
- Ekaterina Rodivilova (Department of Nanophotonics) – “Lenses and phase masks for ultrasound focusing” (supervisor: Sergey A. Tsysar).
Research of ultrasound transducers:
- Alisher Akmuradov (Department of Nanophotonics) – “Densely packed multi‑element ultrasound transducers based on piezoceramics” (supervisor: Sergey A. Tsysar).
- Marina Platonova (Department of Nanophotonics) – “Influence of boundary conditions in acoustic holography tasks illustrated by the calculation of the field distribution of a spherical transducer” (supervisor: Sergey A. Tsysar).
- Elizaveta Anastasina (Department of Acoustics) – “Influence of the properties of various breast cancer types ex vivo on the degree of their mechanical fractionation by boiling histotripsy” (supervisors: Vera A. Khokhlova and Ekaterina M. Ponomarchuk).
- Nikita Gusev (Department of Medical Physics) – “Pulsed ultrasound method for recanalization and fractionation of gastric and esophageal cancer tumors: first experimental ex vivo demonstration and study of the influence of tumor morphology” (supervisor: Ekaterina M. Ponomarchuk).
- Ilya Savin (Department of Medical Physics) – “First experimental ex vivo research of mechanical fractionation of nodular colloidal goiter by boiling histotripsy” (supervisor: Ekaterina M. Ponomarchuk).
- Tagir Khamidullin (Department of Medical Physics) – “Comparative analysis of the elastic properties of various human kidney compartments ex vivo and the efficiency of their mechanical fractionation by boiling histotripsy” (supervisor: Ekaterina M. Ponomarchuk).
All students performed successfully and defended their work with distinction. Based on the fair contest, the works by Elizaveta Anastasina, Ekaterina Rodivilova, and Nikita Gusev were nominated for the course-paper competition by their respective departments. After the second round, Nikita Gusev got on the list of finalists!
