LIMU participation in the International Congress on Ultrasonics (ICU 2023)

From 18th to 21st September 2023, the 8th International Congress on Ultrasonics (2023 ICU BEIJING) was held in Beijing, China. The conference in China was originally scheduled for 2021, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The congress organizers (ICU, the Acoustical Society of China and the Institute of Acoustics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) have decided to hold ICU BEIJING in 2023 in a hybrid format. The congress program included more than 830 presentations in various domains of ultrasonics: 7 plenary lectures, 54 sections on physical acoustics, biomedical and industrial ultrasound, non-destructive testing and other promising areas of ultrasound application.

The congress was attended by LIMU staff members Sergey Tsysar and Petr Yuldashev, as well as graduate students Ekaterina Ponomarchuk, Shamil Asfandiyarov, Anastasia Kvashennikova, Elena Konnova, Liubov Kotelnikova, Daria Chupova, Polina Pestova. The laboratory presented 9 papers in the sections “Biomedical Ultrasound for Therapy and Diagnosis”, “Computational Acoustics for Complex Media and Structures”, “Nonlinear Acoustics and Ultrasonics”, “Acoustic Tweezers and Particle Manipulation”, “NDT and NDE Transducers”. The head of the laboratory, Oleg Sapozhnikov, was a member of the International Organizing and Scientific Committees, and a member of the ICU Board.

Alongside the scientific program, the organizers hosted several informal events: a welcome reception, a banquet, a Chinese folk music concert where traditional Chinese musical instruments (Chinese bamboo flute, erhu, pipa, guzheng, guqin, ocarina, dulcimer) were presented to Congress participants.

The participation of all the graduate students at the congress was supported by the ICU with a student travel grant. Based on the results of the competition selection, Anastasia Kvashennikova, a graduate student of the laboratory, has been awarded the C.F. Ying Award for Young Ultrasonics Scholars. Congratulations to Nastya!
