LIMU at the XXXVII Session of the Russian Acoustical Society
From October 20 to 24, 2025, the annual conference of the Russian Acoustical Society was held – this year, in the historically first building of the Physics Faculty of Moscow State University on Mokhovaya Street, the V.A. Kotelnikov Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics. The 18 sections of the conference covered various aspects of modern acoustics and brought together reports from specialists in various cities of Russia.
LIMU directors Vera A. Khokhlova and Oleg A. Sapozhnikov participated in organizing the conference as members of the program committee. S.A. Tsysar chaired the "Ultrasonic Technologies" and "Physical Acoustics" sections, while Vera A. Khokhlova chaired the "Medical Applications of Acoustic Methods" section. Before the start of the medical section, Vera A. Khokhlova gave a tribute speech honoring the memory of Leonid R. Gavrilov who passed away this year – a pioneer of therapeutic ultrasound research in Russia and the USSR, our close colleague, and mentor to many LIMU students and graduates.
LIMU research fellows, postgraduates, and students shared their latest results in 14 reports within 4 different conference sections:
- In the "Physical Acoustics" section, Liubov M. Kotelnikova spoke about her experiments on vortex beam generation, while Pavel B. Rosnitskiy and Sergey A. Tsysar gave talks on the use of acoustic holography to reconstruct vibrations on an source surface and the method of correcting the holography data considering medium temperature.
- In the "Wave Propagation and Diffraction" section, Petr V. Yuldashev shared the latest developments of a new 3D model for numerical simulation of acoustic wave propagation in inhomogeneous media.
- In the "Nonlinear Acoustics" section, Elena O. Konnova gave a talk on accelerating the algorithms for calculations of acoustic fields using GPUs; Fedor A. Nartov shared results on investigating fields of ultrasonic transducers of various shapes and sizes; and Anastasia V. Kvashennikova and Maria S. Sergeeva spoke about researching parametric effects for underwater and medical applications.
- Finally, in the "Medical Applications of Acoustic Methods" section, Daria D. Chupova presented two reports on the developed methods for improving the accuracy and efficiency of non-invasive ultrasound neurosurgery; Maria M. Karzova and Polina A. Pestova shared their results in the field of thermal ablation using focused and flat ultrasound transducers; Stepan D. Sorokin gave a talk on measuring the acoustic properties of various soft tissue phantoms; and Ekaterina M. Ponomarchuk shared the latest developments for compensating the respiratory motion during percutaneous ultrasound surgery.
The presentations by our young specialists Elena O. Konnova, Anastasia V. Kvashennikova, Liubov M. Kotelnikova, Daria D. Chupova, Polina A. Pestova, Maria S. Sergeeva, Stepan D. Sorokin, and Fedor A. Nartov were awarded certificates for the best presentations in their sections!
We congratulate our researchers and wish them further success in their scientific activities!
