LIMU speaks at workshop on acoustics and acoustic metamaterials at ITMO

In October 2025, the ITMO University hosted a Workshop on Acoustics and Acoustic Metamaterials, bringing together leading specialists from Russia and international research centers.

Experts from Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Andreev Acoustics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan), and Tongji University (China) participated in the event.

LIMU research fellows took part in the seminar as the invited speakers:

• LIMU Co-Director Oleg A. Sapozhnikov gave a review lecture, "Acoustics and Wave Physics in Modern Applications of Ultrasound in Therapy," in which he drew analogies between wave effects in optics and acoustics and discussed the important applications of ultrasound.

• LIMU Co-Director Vera A. Khokhlova presented a lecture on nonlinear high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), as well as tools for modeling such fields, their sources, and the resulting bioeffects.

• LIMU research fellow Sergey A. Tsysar discussed classical, currently used, and promising methods for characterizing sources and their fields in a lecture on acoustic holography.

The main audience consisted of undergraduate and graduate students who came to the seminar at ITMO from various cities. The lectures generated interest among the audience, resulting in a number of questions and fruitful discussions.
